What is Arf?
Arf is a bitcoin payments network for micro- & recurring payments and P2P payments network
where everyone can send BTC by simply using email addresses. It uses non-custodial, multisig
wallets combined with a proprietary Layer 2 technology, called Pipeline, to offer zero fees for end
users and instant payment validation.
What problem does Arf solve exactly?
On broader scope, most of the world’s population is online but most of the money isn’t. As a result,
although any given online transaction is intuitive, fast and cheap on the data side, it is complex,
slow and surprisingly expensive on the money side.
How does Arf solve this problem differently?
The most secure blockchains using "Proof of Work" like Bitcoin are very slow, cumbersome and
charge high transaction fees. We built a technology, called Pipeline, that enables Arf to verify
Bitcoin payments instantly without taking users' private keys. Also, end users do not pay any
transaction fee for transactions within the Arf Network. We coupled this technology with an easy-touse mobile app where end users can control and manage all of their payments.
Why is this problem so important and why should I care about Bitcoin payments?
In 2017 there were already 250 million unbanked people with a smartphone and internet access out
of a total 1,7 billion. Having the largest userbase of approx. 25M+ BTC holders and 100K+ globally
distributed nodes, Bitcoin is by far the most widely used, best understood and secure crypto
currency in the world to reach this financially excluded demographic.
There is an exponentially increasing trend in BTC volume outside of trading, around $4.65 billion
per year with 227% YoY growth, mostly created by peer-to-peer international & domestic
remittance, merchant payments, bill payments and B2B settlements, especially in developing
countries such as Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Indonesia where local economies see turbulent times
as national currencies fluctuate and people are having major difficulties to access the necessary
Given the huge smart phone penetration in these regions, it would be a game changer if these
people were included in the global financial ecosystem as merchants and paying customers instead
of just active users.
We believe that Bitcoin holds the key for better financial inclusion where E-Money has failed. We, a
4 people founder team with 20 years of entrepreneurship experience, built a unique technology on
top of Bitcoin network which works as an efficiency layer by bundling transactions and making
Bitcoin easy, instant and free like debit cards. Arf surpasses all current solutions in the market,
including the lightning network, in terms of speed, cost, security & ease of use.
What are the main use cases for Arf?
1) Domestic and cross border remittance as global and country independent, instant & zero-fee
peer-to-peer transactions via e-mail -> Arf enables people to instantly send as low as 1 cent to
an email address from anywhere in the world without paying any fees, even the email is not a
registered Arf Wallet user.
2) Merchants, accepting payments from global and country independent customers without
needing a bank account while customers making payments instantly and with zero-fee -> Arf
enables people to get BTC payments by selling goods/services (e.g. on Shopify, Etsy, Wix,
etc.), or become employed in projects/jobs (e.g. on Freelancer, Fiverr, Uber), spend their BTC
to improve their business and solve their own problems (e.g. buying professional courses on
Udemy, Coursera, learning business or coding), pay for raw materials, human resources to
produce goods/services and use BTC in everyday life. Arf gives people all around the world the
ability to launch a merchant store in under 5 minutes to join the global financial ecosystem
without any technical know-how.
What is Arf's vision?
Our vision is to become the synonym for instantly and easily sending, accepting and using Bitcoin in
everyday life to offer everyone equal opportunity for financial self-sufficiency and independence
wherever they live.
How does Pipeline work and how is it different from the Lightning Network?
Pipeline is basically a UTXO aggregator for payments originating from Arf’s non-custodial multisig
wallets. Pipeline aggregates payments from end users based on several factors and sends them to
Bitcoin network in bulk to minimize transaction fees. Unlike usual custodial solutions like Crypto
Exchanges, Pipeline does not need to manage user private keys on the server side to operate.
Lightning Network is a fully decentralized Layer 2 solution for instant payments. In its current form
LN suffers from major shortcomings like payment routing problems (especially payments >$5),
channel liquitidy, the need to maintain a full node and stay online 24/7, and a very hard & technical
onboarding process. Pipeline makes a trade-off in terms of centralizing parts of Layer 2 in favor of
super easy onboarding, overall usability, 100% reliable payments routing and a truly fee-less
How much does Arf cost?
Arf is 100% free for end users. Thanks to our Pipeline Technology end users do not pay transaction
fees for transacting via Arf Wallet. Big merchants, e.g. >10,000 customers, pay 2% fee for every
If I’m a merchant, how do I start receiving payments from my customers?
There is no cost, no need for extra servers and no blockchain code needed for a merchant to
onboard Arf Network. It takes less than 24 hours from the decision to the first payments. For more details you can read our technical documentation here or signup as a merchant here.
Can I cash-in or cash-out in fiat currency within Arf?
Not at the moment. But we are working very hard to connect Arf seamlessly to fiat settlement
services like exchanges to offer an end-to-end solution for any kind of payment.
In which countries does Arf work?
Arf works in all countries in the world except China.
